The white rectangles in the quilt shown above contain handwritten messages from guild members. Big Bird chose a flamingo-patterned border to further remind her of her Florida quilting pals.
After the guild members swapped floral blocks, they each created a quilt like the one shown above. Doesn't it remind you of looking through a window at a garden? It inspires me but I'm not yet sure whether I'm inspired to spend more time learning how to quilt or designing a garden. Just in case it's the former, I think I ought to mosey out to a fabric store and invest in a few more meters of flowered fabric.

"Fandango" was made out of scraps of fabric left over from Big Bird's previous quilts. It reminds me of a bookcase from Dr. Seuss's perspective.

ReplyDeleteI figured you and Geraldine might want to see them. Is Tidewater Oakleaf still auctioning a quilt every spring? Big Bird is the hospital CO spouse and creates baby quilts for hospital staff members' newborns.
ReplyDeleteTo which guild in JAX does Big Bird belong? I'm still a member of the Friendship Quilters and I was on the Quiltfest Board several years when we lived there. I also wish you were nearby so you could 'shop' in my fabric. I have tons and I don't get much quilting done any more. Too lazy these days!

Yep, we still do the quilt each year but both my quilting buddies moved this past year! Luckily we had made 2 quilts 2 years ago and only auctioned off one so I still had that extra one for this year. Not sure what will happen next year :(
